Best Colorado Resorts For Families
Looking for that quintessential family ski trip? The one with plenty of laughs to go around, a good mix of terrain to satisfy all skill levels, good lodging options, and great restaurants. We have got you covered. Below are our top 5 Colorado Family ski destinations. With one coming in head and shoulders above the rest.
5. Breckenridge - Coming in at #5 is Breckenridge Ski Resort. A long-time favorite of families and tourists. The high alpine bowls offers access for advanced skiers while the plethora of cruisers down below provides terrain for all. The lively town with it's vast selection of shops, restaurants and pubs certainly separates Breckenridge.
4. Vail - Coming in at #4 is the world famous Vail Resort. With it's massive footprint, legendary back-bowls, and upscale town it has been a family and local favorite for decades.
3. Beaver Creek - Coming in at #3 is Vail's lesser known neighbor Beaver Creek resort. We know many of you are wondering how we could rank "The Beave" above the illustrious Vail. Hear us out. Beaver Creek while smaller offers a mellower less crowded and highly curated experience for families. The sometimes crowded Vail slopes can often times be avoided at Beaver Creek. The terrain is perfect for families with mixed abilities and they serve hot cookies everyday at 3PM. Come on who doesn't like warm cookies?
2. Steamboat - At #2 is Steamboat, take a trip up north to experience the world famous steamboat powder. Why do we love Steamboat for families? Great terrain, consistently good snow, plenty of reasonable lodging at the base which required little commute, and one of the best towns in Colorado. Don't miss the old town hot springs in downtown Steamboat our kids love climbing the wall and jumping into the hot pools.
1. Snowmass - To be clear this was not close. We love all of the ski areas in Colorado and have ski's them all many times. But for families it is not even close. Snowmass is in a class of it's own. The never crowded ski area with massive amounts of varied terrain will have you wondering why you ski anywhere else. The on-mountain dining is actually good if not excellent (Treat yourself to a lunch at Sam's), the staff is friendly, the snow is consistently excellent, lodging is plentiful, and you have quick access to three other ski resorts (Aspen Mountain, Highlands and Buttermilk).
